USW Members Ratify Agreement with Alcoa

PITTSBURGH – The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that members ratified a new, four-year master contract with Arconic covering roughly 965 workers at Warrick Operations in Indiana and Massena Operations in New York.

USW International Vice President Emil Ramirez said that membership solidarity was essential to winning economic and contract language improvements for Alcoa employees.

“The unity of our membership across both master locations empowered the committee to negotiate improvements to wages and benefits,” Ramirez said. “When union workers stand together in the name of fairness and justice, there are no limits to what we can accomplish.”

USW District 7 Director Mike Millsap said that union members sent a strong message by rejecting a previous tentative agreement and holding subsequent strike authorization votes prior to concluding negotiations.

“The membership earns and deserves fair wage increases, high-quality health care coverage and retirement with dignity,” Millsap said. “We are proud to say that the solidarity of Alcoa’s USW represented workforce allowed us to achieve our bargaining goals.” The contract also protects high-quality health care coverage, strengthens retirement security and includes language improvements addressing scheduling, job security and workplace protections.

The USW represents 850,000 men and women employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in tech, higher education, public sector and service occupations.
