The municipal workers of Newport News keep the city moving every single day. They welcome residents and visitors to our parks, libraries, and museums. They connect families with vital social services. They keep city operations running smoothly. Our city works because they do.

In December, you received an Info Alert regarding potential action by the Newport News City Council to allow city workers to collectively bargain.

In February, Mayor Phillip D. Jones signed onto a letter opposing state legislation on public sector bargaining. He later issued a statement expressing support for Newport News workers having the opportunity to collectively bargain locally.

However, Mayor Jones must publicly and actively support passage of a strong collective bargaining ordinance in Newport News.

City workers keep Newport News running. They deserve a real voice on the job – the ability to negotiate for fair wages, secure benefits, and safe working conditions. Now is the time to make collective bargaining a reality in Newport News.

Send an email to Mayor Jones today urging him to push the City Council to consider and advance the resolution. Let’s make sure Newport News workers finally have the freedom to form their union and bargain collectively.
