Ken Neumann, who served for 18 years as the USW’s national director for Canada before his retirement in 2022, became the fifth international president of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) on March 1.
A USW member since he was 18, Neumann became director for Canada in 2004 after 15 years as director of District 3 in Western Canada.
“I’m proud and delighted to be able to continue serving my union and its members – particularly seniors and retirees – in my retirement,” Neumann said. “I like to stay connected, and if I can make a contribution by advancing the interests of union members in their retirement, I am honored to do so.”
In his role as SOAR president, Neumann succeeds former District 4 Director Bill Pienta, who led the organization for 13 years.
