PITTSBURGH — The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that the union will continue bargaining with Marathon past contract expiration for a national agreement covering workers represented through the USW National Oil Bargaining Program.
The USW National Oil Bargaining Program includes more than 30,000 USW oil workers across dozens of employers in more than 200 bargaining units. The program includes refining, production, pipelines, maintenance, storage and petrochemical facilities that represent roughly two-thirds of all U.S. refining capacity.
“USW members are standing together for fairness and justice,” said Michael J. Smith, chairman of the USW National Oil Bargaining Program. “Our unity and solidarity at every facility throughout the industry sends a clear message that we are prepared to fight for a fair contract.”
The union’s national oil bargaining covers wages, health care and other benefits, health and safety protections and other priorities USW members identified as they work to secure a long-term future for their industry.
The USW represents 850,000 workers employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in health care, public sector, higher education, tech and service occupations.
